Ewing started his 2022 summer with a bang by going off at PBR’s National Program Invitational, where he went 13-for-19 (.684) with three home runs. He continued performing at essentially every event he attended, and over 33 logged games with Synergy in 2022, Ewing hit .337/.452/.554 with four home runs and six doubles. Listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds, Ewing is small and thin, but he produces surprising power with impressive bat speed—particularly to the pull side. He starts his swing with a big leg kick, but keeps his upper half and hands fairly quiet during the pre-pitch sequence before firing his hands through the zone and looking to do damage to the pull side. He can get a bit pull-oriented overall, and needs to do a better job with pitches on the outer half and use the entire field, though evaluators with more history of Ewing have noted his ability to do that as an underclassman. Ewing is an above-average runner and a solid defender, though he profiles more naturally as a second baseman in the long run than at shortstop. His actions in the middle infield are fine, but he throws with reasonable effort on the left side of the infield, which might make him a better fit for second. Ewing’s overall power and impact is a question given his size, but he certainly impressed as a lefty bat with pop and opened eyes with his energetic style of play. He’s committed to Alabama.

Adjusted Grade: 45
Track Record: The Mets drafted Ewing near the end of the fourth round in 2023, using the compensatory pick they gained from Jacob deGrom signing with the Rangers. Ewing quickly hit his way out of the Florida Complex League in 2024 and started back at Low-A St. Lucie in 2025. He advanced to High-A Brooklyn at the end of April and moved to Double-A Binghamton in mid August. He batted .315/.400/.429 in 124 games, ranking fifth in the minors with 70 stolen bases, sixth with 10 triples and eighth with 153 hits.
Scouting Report: Ewing has a well-rounded game centered on strong swing decisions, line-drive contact to all fields and plus speed. He tweaked his swing in 2025 to improve his batted-ball angles and make more contact. Ewing’s line-drive rate climbed by more than 10 percentage points, while his swinging-strike rate fell from 12% to about 9% as he moved up the ladder. His instincts and decision-making stand out, as evidenced by a system-best .401 on-base percentage and 70-for-81 showing on the bases. Ewing hits the ball hard enough to run into a few home runs, but his spray approach limits his power to below-average. A high school shortstop, Ewing has primarily played center field in pro ball with occasional starts at second base. He’s improved his jumps and max speed in the outfield and should be an above-average option in center and a plus one on the corners with an above-average arm.
The Future:Ewing does a lot of things that can help a team win, beginning with the potential for plus hitting ability and plus speed. Additionally, he bats lefthanded, gets on base and plays up the middle. The versatility to play outfield and infield only helps his cause. Ewing finished 2025 at Double-A and should reach Triple-A in 2026, putting him on the MLB radar as a 21-year-old.

Track Record: The Mets added a compensatory draft pick after the fourth round in 2023 when free agent Jacob deGrom signed with the Rangers. They used the pick to draft Ohio high school shortstop Ewing, who signed for an above-slot $675,000. He began his first full season in 2024 in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League, but after producing a .993 OPS in 19 games he was promoted to Low-A St. Lucie on June 4. Ewing held his own in the Florida State League with a 14.7% walk rate that ranked second among league teenagers.
Scouting Report: Ewing played shortstop in high school but focused on center field and second base in 2024. He is a solidly built 5-foot-11 lefthanded hitter with solid all-around tools and some explosiveness in his actions. Ewing’s standout batting attribute is strike-zone judgment. His 19% chase rate is well above-average for a teenager. His 90th percentile exit velocity of 102 mph is above-average for his age, and he managed to hit 10 home runs in 90 games in two stifling Florida hitting environments. His main development focus is staying more direct to the ball. Ewing is a plus runner who can find an extra gear when he smells a hit. His speed serves him well as he gains experience in center field, where he has average potential. Ewing still looks at home on the dirt and should retain second base in his profile.
The Future: Along with teenage teammates Jesus Baez, Boston Baro, Ronald Hernandez and Colin Houck, Ewing helped St. Lucie have the youngest hitting group in the Florida State League in 2024. All should see time at High-A Brooklyn during the 2025 season.
