A 6-foot-3, 205-pound third baseman, Harlan is a power-over-hit corner profile who has the tools to profile nicely at the hot corner, but he had an inconsistent summer showcase circuit and tinkers with his swing enough for scouts to wonder about his true hitting ability. He alternated between a low and high handset throughout the summer, but when he’s synced up his swing can look solid with impressive bat speed and strength that led to some of the best top-end exit velocities with a wood bat at the 2024 MLB Draft combine. Harlan will need to prove his pitch recognition against secondaries and he’ll also need to convince scouts that he has the requisite mobility to stick at third base. He’s an average runner and has fine hands and solid arm strength that could all fit the position, but he has added strength and mass and will need to maintain his quickness moving forward. Harlan is young for the class and turns 18 just before the draft which will be another point in his favor for teams excited about his physical tools and power potential. He’s committed to Clemson, but there’s a chance he gets taken in the 2-5 round range.

Track Record: The Dodgers chose Harlan with their third-round pick in 2024 and went more than two times over slot to sign him for $1,747,500. A nagging hip injury from his amateur days as a Pennsylvania prep led to surgery after the draft. Harlan made his pro debut in the Arizona Complex League in 2025 and reached full-season ball during the dog days of summer. Combined, Harlan swatted nine home runs, including three in 26 Low-A games.
Scouting Report: Scouts in the ACL gushed over Harlan’s raw gifts, with some tabbing his raw power as a true 80 on the 20-80 scouting scale. His top-end exit velocity of 114.7 mph provides a key piece of the evidence behind that assertion. Now, the question will be whether he can refine his hit tool enough to regularly access that kind of thump. Harlan’s miss rates were just OK, and scouts noticed particular weakness against premium velocity and spin. That was especially true toward the latter part of the season, which the Dodgers attributed to the longer workload, especially in his first full year back from surgery. After tweaks to his setup and mechanics, Harlan’s swing is short and simple, with only a moderate hand load required to put charges into baseballs. Harlan mashed lefthanders in a small sample but was only fair against righties. Already 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Harlan’s chances of sticking at third base will require him to maintain his quickness and athleticism as he matures. His plus arm strength would also fit in right field, where his power would also profile if he has to move in the coming years. Scouts also give him high marks for his work ethic.
The Future: Harlan will return to Low-A in 2026, when he’ll work to improve against offspeed pitches and try to stay deft enough on his feet to remain on the dirt.

Track Record: After forfeiting their second-round pick for signing Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers made their second selection in the third round and chose Harlan at No. 98 overall. One of the younger players in the class, Harlan signed for $1,747,500 to sway him from a commitment to Clemson. After dealing with a hip injury throughout his high school career, Harlan was shut down post-draft and had surgery to alleviate the issue. He should be ready for spring training.
Scouting Report: The Dodgers were drawn to Harlan thanks to an enviable body and the power it may one day produce. His swing is simple and helped him produce some of the best exit velocities at the MLB Draft Combine. Harlan also gained a reputation for tinkering with his swing, and scouts noted that he alternated his hand position throughout his draft season. Los Angeles also saw his posture get better during the year. He can hammer fastballs but showed some weakness against spin. The Dodgers liked the way he began using the whole field as the summer progressed. Harlan has the average arm strength requisite for third base but will have to work to maintain his mobility and athleticism as he matures.
The Future: Once he recovers from surgery, Harlan will be ready for his pro debut, which will likely come in the Arizona Complex League. Harlan has a ceiling as an everyday third baseman with the type of power necessary to profile at the position.

A 6-foot-3, 205-pound third baseman, Harlan is a power-over-hit corner profile who has the tools to profile nicely at the hot corner, but an up-and-down summer with the bat that might create some questions. His timing seemed a bit off throughout the summer and fall and he tinkered with his setup at the plate—alternating between a low handset with the bat starting on his shoulders in the summer and a high handset above his head in the fall—but he has flashed above-average raw power in batting practice with lots of impact potential when he’s timed up. Harlan will need to prove his pitch recognition against secondaries and he’ll also need to convince scouts he can has the requisite mobility to stick at third base at the next level, but those who have seen him at his best are excited about his offensive potential. Harlan is committed to Clemson.
