After a number of delays, Topps Pro Debut 2025 is set to release on Nov. 12. That’s good for Baseball America readers, as I’m not sure there’s a baseball card product on the calendar that captures the essence of BA like Topps Pro Debut.

You don’t buy this set just for the big chases and speculative future value—you buy this set because you’re a prospect nut.

This prospect-laden product features tomorrow’s stars in their minor league uniforms set against the styling of the 2025 Topps flagship design. And in recent years, when we’ve seen prices climb on flagship Bowman to a point where it’s almost unattainable for the average collector to get their prospect fix, Topps Pro Debut has quietly been one of the better-value products on the market for prospect autograph chasers.

With autographed cards of Nick Kurtz, Konnor Griffin, Leo De Vries, Roman Anthony and a ton of Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects, this year is sure to be a good one. Let’s dive into the latest Topps Pro Debut offering with a complete breakdown of what to expect for 2025.

The Most Famous Names In Topps Pro Debut 2025

At release, the 2025 Topps Pro Debut checklist features 82 of Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects, including all of the top 13. Here are the top names to look out for:

You’ll also find a number of players on the Pro Debut checklist who have recently graduated from our Top 100. So, in addition to the players listed above, be on the lookout for some of your favorites from the 2025 rookie class like, Nick Kurtz, Cade Horton, Cam Smith, Chandler Simpson, Colson Montgomery, Jac Caglianone, Kristian Campbell, Kyle Teel, Luke Keaschall and Matt Shaw.

Jumbo Autograph Relics & The Logoman Chase

A few weeks back, BA’s own Seth Mates broke the story about the MiLB ‘Logo Man’ chase cards featured in this set. This is a big chase for this product, and I am compelled to put the jumbo autograph relics set right alongside it!

A warning: If you like texture with your patch cards, this may not be the set for you. Minor league uniforms and their design features are notoriously screen-printed. This doesn’t deter me from collecting these cards, but before you shell out the big bucks on a chase, keep this in mind.

We know that there are 28 total cards in the Logoman Auto Relic set featuring 23 total players. There are some big names included in this set, including Marcelo Mayer, Walker Jenkins, Josue De Paula (x2), Colson Montgomery (x2) and Kyle Teel.

The Jumbo Auto Relic set features 27 total cards across mostly the same players found in the Logoman set. MiLB teams are known for a variety of themed uniforms and mascots, so this set has a chance to announce itself in a loud way if the swatches come out looking as bright and fun as anticipated.

New Insert Sets: Drafted, League Elites, Stars of MiLB & Ballpark Promos

One of the fun new inserts for 2025 is Drafted, which depicts each player sketched on a notepad with colored pencils lying over the top. It’s a 20-card set including both Konnor Griffin and JJ Wetherholt. Wetherholt also features in the six-card autograph subset that includes Nick Kurtz

League Elites is another new insert set with an autographed subset. Look for Tigers prospects Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark in the 22-card set, with Roman Anthony and Colson Montgomery featured in the 12-card autograph variation run.

One can assume that the 24-card Stars of MiLB set mimics the well-known insert offering from Topps Flagship. Ballpark Promos, meanwhile, is a 16-card die-cut set designed to resemble a ticket stub. Samuel Basallo is your highest-rated prospect in that set.

While the MiLB Legends insert set checklist is limited to 10 names, there are some fun inclusions to look out for, including Buster Posey, Cliff Lee and Chase Utley in both standard and autograph variations.

Who We’re Hunting

Or, rather, what we’re hunting, as I would bet there are going to be some nasty swatches in the Jumbo Auto Relic set. I’ll have my eyes out for Kyle Teel (Portland Sea Dogs), Walker Jenkins (Fort Myers Mighty Mussels) and Carson Williams (Montgomery Biscuits). Sign me up for a game-used swatch of a biscuit with huge googly eyes.

Seriously though, vibrant colors and unique mascots are what MiLB is all about. This set has a chance to produce some special cards.

For the collector who doesn’t have the money to shell out for a Konnor Griffin Bowman First auto, the top tier of autos in this set still features Griffin, as well as Kevin McGonigle, Jesús Made, JJ Wetherholt and Leo De Vries. This makes Pro Debut a really cool opportunity to tap into the traditional Topps flagship refractor colors for top prospects at a fraction of the price.

While the top of the crop is plentiful in this product, there are a number of players available who I think have a shot to make a leap up or into the Top 100 next year. Here are some players I’ll be trying to take advantage of scoring some low-numbered chrome: Bryce Rainer (BA’s No. 24 prospect), Caleb Bonemer (No. 71), Slade Caldwell (No. 96), Chase Harlan, Cole Mathis, Dante Nori, Griffin Burkholder, Jack Penney, JD Dix, Ryan Waldschmidt and Tyson Lewis.

Breaker Value & Teams To Target

Topps Pro Debut 2025 is tricky for team breaking because players are featured in their MiLB uniforms. As such, I went through and deciphered every affiliation in the set as part of my pursuit of helping collectors find the best value in their breaks. I’m looking at volume (of inserts, autographs, etc.) and mostly the quality of position players in the marquee sets. For this set, Autographs, Jumbo Autograph Relics and Logoman Auto Relics are my main considerations.

Below, you can find notable teams broken into tiers with value scores:

 • Tier 1: Dodgers [3830], White Sox [2904], Red Sox [2501], Tigers [2433]

Surprise, surprise—the Dodgers have volume and quality. Josue De Paula and Thayron Liranzo (now a Tigers prospect but featured here with a Dodgers affiliate) each have two Logoman cards to chase. Throw in a Jeral Perez Logoman for good measure, and the Dodgers have five total. A smattering of De Paula (BA’s No. 18 prospect), Zyhir Hope (No. 21), Dalton Rushing (No. 17) and Eduardo Quintero (No. 56) add a really solid middle layer for Dodgers collectors. Autographs from Kellon Lindsey and Chase Harlan only further the intrigue, making the Dodgers the clear team to target.

Staying at Camelback Ranch, the White Sox come in at number two with five Logoman chases of their own: Noah Schultz, Colson Montgomery (x2), Jacob Gonzalez and Samuel Zavala. A heavy dose of Montgomery, Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery and Caleb Bonemer stoke the collectible flames even higher for the White Sox. Schultz and Hagen Smith round out the excitement as a pair of hard-throwing lefties with top-of-the-rotation potential.

For the Red Sox, Kyle Teel features in the Logoman set with the Portland Seadogs, and Marcelo Mayer joins him. Despite having only two Logoman chases, there’s no shortage of Mayer, Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony autographs in this product. Franklin Arias also has a healthy offering of autographs as a lower-level prospect who comes in at No. 48 in Baseball America’s Top 100.

It’s impressive to see the Tigers in this top tier given they have no Logoman chases. They may, however, have the most impressive stash of prospect autographs in the whole set. If you land the Tigers in a break, expect plenty of chances at autographs for Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark, Bryce Rainer and Thayron Liranzo.

 • Tier 2: Twins [1872], Mariners [1569]

The Twins are buoyed by a strong helping of Walker Jenkins and Luke Keaschall—Jenkins being BA’s No. 11 prospect and Keaschall having hit .302 across 207 plate appearances in his debut MLB season. As if that pairing wasn’t enough to pique your interest, you’ll find a depth of autos in this set tied to Minnesota, including Kaelen Culpepper, who had a solid MiLB season this year by going 20-20 across two levels while hitting .289. Other Twins names of note who signed for this set include Charlee Soto, Billy Amick, Khadim Diaw and Kyle DeBarge.

The Mariners may be the deepest group in the entire set thanks to a strong group of position players who signed for this checklist. Harry Ford features as the Logoman and Jumbo Auto Relic chase. Behind him, Colt Emerson found his way into the Future Cornerstones insert set (which we believe to be autographed) and onto a triple autograph card with fellow Mariners prospects Harry Ford and Felnin Celesten. Jonny Farmelo, Michael Arroyo and Lazaro Montes are all Top 100 Prospects who have signed across multiple sets in this product. You’ll find Ryan Sloan (BA’s No. 64 prospect) in there, as well. It’s not the lack of player quality or depth that finds the Mariners in Tier 2 instead of Tier 1, but rather, the lack of inclusion in the chase sets.

 • Tier 3: Cubs [1260], Padres [1175]

The Cubs are a little top-heavy in this product. The primary reason for inclusion in Tier 3 is the Matt Shaw Logoman and Jumbo Auto Relic chases. If Shaw isn’t your cup of tea, keep scrolling. You’ll also find Shaw teamed with Baseball America’s No. 55 prospect Owen Caissie and NL Rookie of the Year contender Cade Horton in the Pro Debut Duals and Triples checklists. Beyond that, you can find some lower-level prospects like Ty Southisene and Cole Mathis. Jonathon Long, who hit .305 with 20 homers at Triple-A this year but is limited defensively to first base, rounds out the short list.

What’s a prospect product without the Padres? Don’t overthink this one—this is all about Leo De Vries. And while he was traded midseason to the Athletics, he features in this product with Padres A-Ball Lake Elsinore affiliate. Though there isn’t a Logoman or Jumbo Auto Relic to chase, De Vries is across the autograph checklists from base to chrome to insert autograph variations to Pro Debut Duals (with Jesús Made) and Triples (with Joendry Vargas and Sebastian Walcott). If you’re targeting the Padres, confirm where De Vries sits in the eyes of your breaker (A’s or Padres), as he should be a Padre for this product. Confirm how your breaker handles multi-autographed cards with multiple organizations represented. If it’s not De Vries, there isn’t much else behind him for the Padres in this product.

 • Avoid: Yankees [136], Braves [88]

Excluding the 2025 MLB Draft, there’s not a whole lot cooking down on the farm for the Bronx Bombers right now, and that is reflected on this checklist (and, no, Cam Schlittler is not included). George Lombard Jr., the Yankees’ top prospect and No. 22 prospect overall, has a base paper and chrome auto in this set. Ben Hess and Bryce Cunningham are two big, bruising pitching prospects who have autographs to accompany Lombard Jr., but overall, the checklist is weak on pinstripes.

Whoever is organizing your break should randomize any Braves hits, as there are no Logoman or Jumbo Auto Relic chases for Atlanta. They have just 11 total cards across the entire 940-card checklist. The biggest card to look for is a Cam Caminiti chrome auto. If you are a Braves fan, skip the group break and go to eBay.

Formats, Pricing & Where To Buy

Topps Pro Debut is a hobby-only release, and while last year the product was available in both hobby and jumbo orientations, this year it appears that there will only be one format.

Each hobby box is set to feature 144 cards (six packs with 24 cards per pack) and will have, on average, four autographs. Right now, presales for 2025 Topps Pro Debut hobby boxes are circulating on secondary markets in the ballpark of $150-$200 after initially being made available for $109.99 on Topps.com. It remains to be seen if that price will hold when the product officially drops (and goes up for sale once again) on the Topps website on Nov. 12.

Panini jumped headfirst into exclusive prospect baseball card releases with 2024 Prospect Edition, and now information has started to surface for the second-annual installment.

2025 Panini Prospect Edition is tentatively scheduled for a Dec. 17 release, Baseball America has learned, though release dates are always subject to change.

This year’s Prospect Edition is expected to include players taken in the 2025 MLB Draft with a release date closer to the usual December release of the popular Bowman Draft. Last year’s inaugural Prospect Edition came out in March 2025. No release date has yet been announced for 2025 Bowman Draft.

Panini’s 2025 Prospect Edition will be available in hobby formats priced at $150 and blaster boxes for $25. Hobby boxes will include six packs with eight cards each. Of the 48 cards, roughly 12 will be parallels and six will be holo parallels. There will also be four autographs, according to Panini. Blasters will have six four-card packs with one autograph per box.

After most of the 2024 autographs were sticker autographs, Panini has also indicated that a number of this year’s autographs will be written on-card.

Panini’s hugely popular “Kaboom!” case hit is set to return for 2025, with a checklist that goes beyond prospects. Below, Baseball America subscribers can get an exclusive first look at the full 20-player checklist:

Base cards will feature a “ticket” design similar to last year’s base design:

Another early product image released by Panini shows an autographed insert card of this year’s No. 4 overall draft pick, Ethan Holliday:

Panini does not have a license with MLB, so the cards will not feature team names or logos.

The full checklist has not yet been released, nor has Panini announced if the 2025 Prospect Edition will have a “First Off The Line” prerelease featuring extra-low-numbered hit cards as the series did last year.

Updated Nov. 8 with the official release of the 2025 Topps Chrome Update checklist.

The Rookie Debut Patch chase, which will be featured in the upcoming 2025 Topps Chrome Update, has rapidly become the chase in the baseball card world, especially on the heels of last year’s search for Paul Skenes (and don’t forget, the Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jackson Merrill patches are still out there).

As the fever pitch grew during last year’s chase, Baseball America compiled a database of every player with a patch, organized by team, with updates as each patch was pulled. And with the 2025 Debut Patch checklist now confirmed, we have done the same for this year.

Below is a database of the 270 players on the 2025 Topps Chrome Update checklist — the most ever (last year’s checklist had 251 patches, and the debut year in 2023 had just 91).

The bulk made their MLB debuts between June 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025, though there are 15 players who made their debuts during that timeframe who are NOT on the checklist (the most prominent one being Tomoyuki Sugano of the Orioles), and there are nine players on the checklist who made their debuts in late May 2024 (just before last year’s cutoff).

The biggest 2025 patch chases would seem to be Roki Sasaki for the Dodgers, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer of the Red Sox, Dylan Crews and James Wood for the Nationals and Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz of the Athletics. Spencer Schwellenbach of the Braves, who made his debut in May 2024, will also see his patch finally released this year.

The team with the most patches is the Rockies, with 17, then the Athletics with 16. A handful of teams, including the Yankees and Mets, each have the fewest number of patches, at five each, but you can include Ben Rice and Luisangel Acuña among the chases for those franchises.

Here’s a look at the 270 players on this year’s list, broken down by team along with the dates of their debuts. And be sure to to check back once Topps Chrome Update is released, as we will again be tracking patches as they get pulled.

It’s back.

The biggest hunt of the year in the baseball card world returns in 2025 Topps Chrome Update (scheduled for a Dec. 10 release), as the new crop of 1/1 Rookie Debut Patch autographed cards will become the chase among collectors for the foreseeable future.

After last year’s high-profile (and high-priced) chases for the patches of Paul Skenes, Junior Caminero, Jackson Holliday and so many others, this year, the chase returns with 270 one-of-a-kind patch cards (the most ever), featuring such players as Nick Kurtz, Dylan Crews, James Wood and Roki Sasaki. Only time will tell if the hunt for the Kurtz and Sasaki patches reaches a similar fever pitch to the Skenes chase.

Chrome Update also features the usual Chrome Update goodness, including top rookie cards, autographs, inserts and huge case hits. This year, there are also Disney cards and even a Larry David chrome autograph.

And remember: If Cal Raleigh pulls off the upset and is named AL MVP over Aaron Judge this Thursday, then it’s his base card in Chrome Update that becomes the MVP Buyback card. Meaning the Raleigh cards in this set could become the proverbial “credit cards” (as they are known in the hobby) towards buyback credits of $20 and more. Perhaps to make it up to collectors who were disappointed Raleigh had no base card in Topps Chrome, he is card No. 1 in this set.

And this is all in addition to a 200-card base set, plus a ton of autographs and inserts.

Below, Baseball America subscribers can find a deeper dive into the full Topps Chrome Update checklist, as well as a look at what you need to know for the preorder scheduled for noon on Monday, Nov. 10 and the likely early-December release.

Debut Patches, Larry David, Mickey Mouse & Gold Logoman Patches

The conversation about Chrome Update always begins with the 1/1 Debut Patch chase. Now in its third year, this year’s checklist features 270 names.

And if you thought Chrome Update was done having fun with Paul Skenes chases after last year’s Debut Patch chase, you are sorely mistaken. Because 2024 AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil was injured for much of the early part of the season, his Gold Logoman will make its debut in Chrome Update, and he and his fellow Rookie of the Year Skenes will have a dual Gold Logoman chase in the set.

And as for new chases this year, it almost sounds like a bad joke—what do Larry David and Mickey Mouse have in common? In this case, it’s that both have big-time chase cards in Chrome Update.

David, who had a chase card in Series 1 earlier this year, makes his Chrome debut in this release with a super short print autograph. Various Disney characters will also have short prints in all 30 MLB uniforms.

Who We’re Hunting

Chrome Update is known for its rookie class, and while last year’s crop of Skenes, Jackson Holliday, Jackson Chourio and others will be tough to top, there is no shortage of high-profile rookies in this year’s set. Chrome Update not only has its own rookie crop, but also “rookie debut” cards for these players, as well as players who already had rookie cards in Series 1 and 2.

Among the players with base rookie cards (many of which have autograph variations):

Another important thing to remember: Most of the players who debuted in the second half of the season (such as Roman Anthony) do not have cards in Chrome Update yet. Collectors will have to wait until 2026 for their flagship debuts.

Autographs To Chase

As in past years, the Chrome Update autograph checklist is absolutely loaded:

 • A triple autograph featuring World Series champions Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki
 • Hot rookies such as Roki Sasaki, James Wood, Nick Kurtz and Kristian Campbell
 • Top veterans such as Skenes, Raleigh, Aaron Judge and Bobby Witt Jr.
 • Dual autos (including one of Judge and Derek Jeter) and triple autos (including one of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Ronald Acuña Jr. and Fernando Tatis Jr.)
 • Legends such as Ken Griffey Jr., Cal Ripken Jr. and Barry Bonds, plus 2025 Hall of Famers Ichiro, CC Sabathia and Billy Wagner
 • Japanese legend Sadaharu Oh

Popular Inserts Return & Alter Ego Super Heroes Makes Its Debut

Inserts such as Fortune 15 and Power Players return in Chrome Update, as do the 1990 Topps throwbacks the company has been producing all year. Case hits such as Home Field Advantage, Radiating Rookies, Helix, Celebración and Exposé return, as well.

The new Night Terrors insert will also make its Chrome debut following its first appearance in this week’s Topps Update release.

The 30-card “Mickey and Friends” insert will feature Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy in the jerseys of all 30 teams. A new short print set called Alter Ego Super Heroes will feature 10 players (both current players and legends). It’s likely to be in a comic book style format, but Topps has yet to share any specific information about the insert.

Breaker Value & Teams To Target

The nice thing about Chrome Update for breakers is that every team has at least one MLB Debut Patch, so even the less expensive teams offer chances for huge value. Be sure to be checking Baseball America’s patch tracker to see which cards have been pulled and which haven’t.

And the fact that all 30 teams have a “Disney & Friends” chase card only adds to that value.

That being said, not all teams are created equal. Here’s a look at our favorite (and least favorite) orgs for breakers:

 • Tier 1: The Yankees, Dodgers, Athletics, Pirates, Rockies

With Judge and Ohtani all over this set, plus the Roki Sasaki and Ben Rice Debut Patches, it’s no surprise that the Yankees and Dodgers will be high-priced commodities in breaks. Adding to the Yankees’ value will be the Gold Logoman chase for Gil and the previously-mentioned Dodgers triple auto.

For the Athletics, Kurtz is all over this set, including both his Debut Patch and his first official flagship Chrome rookie card (and a ton of autographs, including one dual with Wilson and another with Mark McGwire). Including Wilson’s, the Athletics have 16 Debut Patches in total, which will make them a prime target in breaks.

For the second year in a row, Skenes will make the Pirates a huge chase in Chrome Update. Not only does he have autograph cards all over this set, but he also has a dual Gold Logomans with Gil (he and Gil are the only 2024 award-winners with Gold Logoman cards in the release).

The Rockies might be a surprise to many here. Yes, they have a ton of rookie cards (including Chase Dollander and Zac Veen) and autograph chases (including legends such as Larry Walker and Troy Tulowitzki). But the reason they’re here is that they have the most Debut Patches of any team, with 17.

 • Tier 2: Nationals, Red Sox

So much breaker value for Chrome Update revolves around the Debut Patch chase, and the Nationals and Red Sox certainly will be a part of that.

Dylan Crews and James Wood are among the 11 Debut Patches on the Nationals checklist, and both have autographs throughout the release. Both Crews and Wood also have “Major League Minis” short print case hit cards. The insert only has 10 cards on the checklist, so the Nationals give you a chance for 20% of those hits.

Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer are among the 11 patches for the Red Sox, as are rookie cards and autographs of both.

 • Could be a surprising value pick: Angels

With Shohei Ohtani no longer on the team and Mike Trout battling injuries for much of the past few years, the Angels have fallen in breaker value recently. But they could be a sneaky good buy in breaks for 2025 Topps Chrome Update.

The team has 13 Debut Patches—a higher number than most teams—plus a ton of Trout inserts and autographs sprinkled throughout the release, including a dual auto with Ken Griffey Jr. and a triple auto with Bobby Witt Jr. and Corbin Carroll. Nolan Ryan also has an auto chase as a member of the Angels.

 • Avoid: Diamondbacks, Cardinals, Rays

It’s hard to designate an “avoid” to any team in 2025 Topps Chrome Update, as they all have Debut Patches and a Disney insert. But the weakest teams of the bunch seem to be the D-backs, Cardinals and Rays.

The D-backs have just five Debut Patches, which is tied for the fewest with the Mets, Yankees and Phillies. The Cardinals and Rays have just six patches each, and although they do have insert cards and chase cards of players such as Corbin Carroll, Albert Pujols and Junior Caminero, there’s nothing that rises to the level of the chases for the other 27 teams.

Topps Chrome Update 2025 Checklist

You can find the complete checklist for this year’s Chrome Update release here.

Formats, Pricing & Where To Buy

Hobby boxes (containing one autograph) are priced at $199.99 for preorders and jumbo boxes (featuring three autos) are priced at $399.99. There are also value boxes ($39.99), mega boxes ($69.99) and Breaker’s Delight boxes (not available for preorder).

The checklist also indicates that there will also be Fanatics-exclusive mega boxes offering redemption cards good for MLB merchandise, as Topps did for 2025 Chrome earlier this year, which will likely go on sale as we get closer to the announced Dec. 10 release date.

2025 Topps Chrome Update is available for preorder as of Monday, Nov. 10, at noon ET on the Topps website, and is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, Dec. 10.

Leaf Trading Cards has upped their game in 2025 when it comes to prospect-heavy baseball card releases, thanks in part to the deal they signed with the Minor League Baseball Players Association earlier this year.

That run looks to continue with 2025 Leaf Vivid which is available as of today, Nov. 5.

Vivid—so named for its colorful designs—includes autograph cards of a plethora of Baseball America Top 100 Prospects, including Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, Jesús Made, Leo De Vries and Trey Yesavage.

Each case also includes 4-5 multi-player autograph cards, featuring 2-4 autos per card.

The set also features autographed cards of amateur players such as Baseball America’s 2025 College Player of the Year, Roch Cholowsky.

Vivid also contains autograph cards of current players such as Bobby Witt Jr. and retired legends like Frank Thomas, Greg Maddux, Nolan Ryan, Mariano Rivera and Ken Griffey Jr.; most of Leaf’s checklist is made up of prospects and veterans, rather than current players, and you won’t see any team logos.

Hobby boxes contain seven autograph cards and two base cards, while jumbo boxes feature 10 autograph cards and two base cards. All base cards will be 1/1, according to Leaf.

The hobby box case hit is a “Vivid Monochrome” card (such as the Carl Yastrzemski card pictured below), and the jumbo case hit is a “Vivid Clear” card.

Leaf Vivid 2025 is now on sale at major retailers. Currently, hobby boxes are listed in the $180 range, and jumbo boxes are in the $285 range.

The post Topps Red RC, MVP Buybacks: Get Your Shohei Ohtani & Nick Kurtz Cards Ready appeared first on College Baseball, MLB Draft, Prospects - Baseball America.

]]>
Update, Nov. 14: The award-winner have been announced, and the players to collect for buyback credit are Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge cards from Topps Chrome and Nick Kurtz and Drake Baldwin Red RC cards from Bowman Chrome.

It’s award season for baseball, and this year, Topps has doubled the potential payouts for collectors.

That’s because in addition to their already hugely popular MVP Buyback program (offering store credits of $20 and up for cards of the AL and NL MVP winners from the Topps Chrome set), this year they introduced the “Red RC” program, offering FanCash (good for use on the Topps and Fanatics family of websites) of $100 and up for cards of the AL and NL Rookies of the Year with a red “rookie card” logo on their cards in Bowman and Bowman Chrome.

There’s no limit to how many cards you can trade in, so depending on how much you collect, there might be a whole lot of buyback funds in your future.

Here’s what you need to know this year for each of the programs.

Topps MVP Buyback

Participating Topps retailers will offer $20 in store credit for every base card you send in of the AL and NL MVP winners, along with incremental amounts for base parallels, from $40 all the way up to $200.

In the NL, the odds favor Shohei Ohtani winning his third-consecutive MVP award. So if you have this base chrome card (or any of its parallels), you might want to put them aside:

There were also incredibly rare MVP Buyback cards sent in from previous years that were stamped and inserted into packs of 2025 Topps Update. If Ohtani wins MVP for the third year in a row, you can also send in those cards for buyback credit of anywhere from $600 to $1,200.

Other NL MVP finalists include the Phillies’ Kyle Schwarber and the Mets’ Juan Soto, so stash those cards for potential buybacks, too.

Now on to the AL race, in which most odds favor Aaron Judge winning his second-consecutive MVP award. Cal Raleigh is also a heavy favorite, but there’s a huge wrinkle here—Raleigh doesn’t have a base card in 2025 Topps Chrome.

So what happens if Raleigh wins MVP? According to Topps, it would be Raleigh’s base card in the upcoming 2025 Topps Chrome Update — not likely to be released until early December — that would be the buyback card.

But if Judge does come away with the award for the second year in a row, you’ll want to gather any chrome variation of this card:

Stamped versions of previous Judge buyback cards were also randomly inserted in 2025 Topps Chrome, so if Judge wins his second MVP award in a row, you can trade those in for buyback credit of anywhere from $400 to $1,000.

Aside from Judge and Raleigh, the other AL MVP finalist is Jose Ramirez of the Guardians.

Topps Red RC Buyback

Introduced just this year for Bowman and Bowman Chrome, the Red RC chase is a bit more difficult than the MVP Buyback, as not every card of the contenders carries the red version of the “RC” logo.

But the floor is also higher, as each Red RC buyback card carries a FanCash value of $100. That goes for the ceiling, too. If you’re a gambler, you can hold onto those Red RC cards and potentially earn even more FanCash if those players go on to win Cy Young Awards or MVP Awards ($300 to $700) or even enter the Hall of Fame ($1,000).

In the AL, Nick Kurtz is the overwhelming favorite to take home Rookie of the Year honors. That means this is the card that you’ll need to earn FanCash (notice the red “RC” at the top left):

Other AL finalists include Kurtz’s A’s teammate Jacob Wilson and Roman Anthony of the Red Sox.

The NL race is a bit closer. The favorites are the Braves’ Drake Baldwin and the Cubs’ Cade Horton, both of whom have Red RCs in 2025 Bowman Chrome. The third NL finalist is Caleb Durbin of the Brewers.

Another thing to keep in mind: According to Topps, Red RC cards are good in any year, not just the year they come out. So, if you pulled any 2025 Red RC cards of Tsung-Che ChengLogan HendersonZac VeenNick Yorke or Kevin Alcantara, you might want to set them aside for 2026, as those are the only names from the 60-player 2025 Bowman and Bowman Chrome checklists who will maintain their rookie status heading into next season, according to Baseball America research. If any of them win Rookie of the Year in 2026, their 2025 Red RC cards would still be eligible for the $100 credits.

How To Get Your Buyback Credit

It’s important to note that there are different forms of “buyback” and different redemption processes for each of the two programs.

For the MVP Buyback program, once you have your cards gathered, you’ll need to fill out a form from the Topps website. You can find the forms and more details on the Topps MVP Buyback program here, including a full list of participating retailers (both national companies and local card shops).

From there, you either mail in the form and the cards to the company of your choice or bring it in to your local card shop to receive the credit. That credit is the same no matter where you go, so the choice is yours.

As for the Red RC program, if you choose to take the FanCash this year (rather than waiting to see what other honors might be in those players’ futures for even more possible FanCash down the line), you’ll need to make sure you have an account on Fanatics Collect, which is the Topps and Fanatics sister site that mostly functions as a single-card marketplace.

From there, you’ll be able to fill in the proper forms to send in your Red RC redemption cards to get $100 per card in FanCash that can be used on any of the Fanatics family of sites, including Topps.

You can find more info on the Red RC redemption program here and the MVP Buyback program here.

The biggest chase of the baseball card year is back, as Topps has announced 2025 Topps Chrome Update will be available for presale beginning Nov. 10.

While the Nov. 10 preorder date could change—many recent releases have seen preorder and on-sale dates moved around—Baseball America is here in the meantime with a rundown of items for collectors to get excited about in the upcoming release.

MLB Debut Patches For 2026

Topps Chrome Update annually includes the hugely popular hunt for autographed 1/1 Rookie Debut Patches. This year’s crop likely includes Nick Kurtz, Roki Sasaki and Dylan Crews, with more big names coming. While the formal checklist has not yet been released, based on Baseball America research, those three would be among 276 Debut Patches in this year’s set.

The only MLB Debut Patch officially confirmed by Topps so far is that of Twins outfielder Luke Keaschall, the image of which they have posted on their Chrome Update preview page:

Introduced in 2023, the Debut Patch chase has rapidly become the biggest in the hobby, thanks in large part to the popularity of last year’s Paul Skenes Debut Patch hunt. That card was found by an 11-year-old in California on Christmas morning and later sold at auction to Dick’s Sporting Goods for $1.11 million. Fans can now see the card on display at one of their stores in Pittsburgh.

Assuming this year’s checklist is, indeed, made up of 276 patches, it would be the most ever. Last year’s Topps Chrome Update had 251 patches, and the 2023 release had just 91.

MVP Buyback Program

Here’s another interesting wrinkle in Chrome Update: According to Topps, If Cal Raleigh wins AL MVP, his base card in Chrome Update would be eligible for the Topps MVP Buyback program since he did not have a base card in this year’s Topps Chrome release. The program offers collectors $20 or more in buyback credit for each card of eligible award winners.

The MVP announcement is not likely to come until a few days after the Nov. 10 preorder date.

Rookies & Inserts

In addition to the Debut Patches and possible MVP buybacks, Chrome Update is also known for its huge rookie classes and fun inserts—and this year looks to be no different.

Early product images released by Topps show the Chrome rookie cards for Nick Kurtz and Matt Shaw. Topps says new inserts for 2025 Chrome Update will include Fortune 15, Night Terrors and Power Players.

How To Buy Topps Chrome Update 2025

Given that Topps usually sets preorders to occur about four weeks before a product’s release, collectors should expect a likely sale date during the week of Dec. 8. Stay tuned to Baseball America in the event of updates.

Topps has not yet announced pricing and formats for the preorder. Last year’s preorder included hobby boxes featuring one guaranteed autograph (around $200) and jumbo boxes featuring three guaranteed autographs (around $400).

Once available, you will be able to preorder 2025 Topps Chrome Update here.

Bowman Chrome ‘Red RC’ Buybacks: Which Players Should You Be Holding Onto For 2026? https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/bowman-chrome-red-rc-buybacks-which-players-should-you-be-holding-onto-for-2026/ https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/bowman-chrome-red-rc-buybacks-which-players-should-you-be-holding-onto-for-2026/#respond Fri, 17 Oct 2025 12:48:55 +0000 https://www.baseballamerica.com/?p=1772085 While we don't know which players will win 2026 Rookie of the Year honors, we do know which current Bowman cards will be eligible for 'Red RC' buyback credit.

Updated on Nov. 4 to indicate that Kevin Alcantara is also rookie eligible in 2026.

The Bowman Red RC program—introduced this year to offer buybacks of $100 or more for certain baseball cards of players who win Rookie of the Year—is mostly focused on 2025 favorites like Nick Kurtz, Drake Baldwin and Cade Horton.

But before you go ignoring the rest of the Bowman and Bowman Chrome rookie cards you’ve collected with the bright red “RC” in the corner, there are five other players from the checklist you might want to put aside for 2026: Tsung-Che Cheng, Logan Henderson, Zac Veen, Nick Yorke and Kevin Alcantara.

Why? Because according to Baseball America research, those players will retain their rookie status in 2026. The other 56 “Red RC” eligible players on the 2025 Bowman and Bowman Chrome checklist have already graduated.

And according to Topps, which owns Bowman, Red RC cards are buyback eligible in any year—not just the year they came out.

So, while we’re not necessarily suggesting any of these players will take home NL ROY honors next year, if they do happen to win, those cards are each worth $100 in buyback credit. And if they win Rookie of the Year and then go on to win an MVP, Cy Young or even make the Hall of Fame, those cards would be worth even more.

Unless you have a huge offer on the table for any of those players’ Red RC cards, it might be worthwhile to tuck them away heading into 2026, because you never know.

For baseball card and collectibles fans planning ahead, you might want to block the last two weeks of next July (into early August) on your calendar.

It had already been announced that the National, the biggest convention of the year, will be taking place in Chicago from July 29 through Aug. 2. Now, Fanatics has confirmed rumors that the third-annual Fanatics Fest will be taking place weeks prior at the Javits Center in New York from July 16-19 in what is an expansion of the event from three to four days for 2026.

This year’s Fanatics Fest, which drew more than 100,000 fans across three days, took place in June—more than a month before the National. It’s rumored that the 2026 Fanatics Fest was pushed back to coincide with the World Cup soccer event, the final of which will be held at MetLife Stadium in nearby New Jersey on July 19. The July dates for Fanatics Fest not only will allow more high-profile soccer guests to appear, but will also mean a large contingent of sports fans visiting from around the world will be able to attend.

Proximity to soccer notwithstanding, the event also features a huge baseball presence. Last year’s event included autograph guests such as Derek Jeter, Albert Pujols and Mike Schmidt.

Fanatics, which owns the Topps baseball card company, says the event will feature more than 250 vendors and athletes guests from across all major sports, plus trading nights, interactive activities and more.

The two previous versions of Fanatics Fest have also offered event-exclusive trading card products. The inaugural event in 2024 featured a Fanatics Fest version of 2024 Topps Chrome, and this year’s event offered an exclusive Fanatics Fest version of 2025 Topps Series 2.

Fanatics says tickets for Fanatics Fest will go on sale this November.

Update, Oct. 13: Based on the preorder information, Pro Debut is only available in one format this year — hobby boxes, each with four autographs. Preorder price is $109.99 per box. Release date is listed as Nov. 12.

With the MLB Debut Patch and Logo Man having become two of the biggest chases in the baseball card world, it looks like 2025 Topps Pro Debut will introduce a new chase that could rival those two.

According to Topps.com, the 2025 Pro Debut set, which focuses on prospects in their minor league team attire, will introduce the Minor League Logo Man chase, featuring game-worn MiLB logo patches put into autographed 1/1 cards.

The release will also introduce jumbo autograph relic cards.

And one of the other big chases for this set has been the preorder date. Originally scheduled for early September, the product was later delayed to “coming soon” status before a 12 p.m. preorder was set for Monday, Oct. 13.

Topps Pro Debut is a popular release for prospect collectors, in large part because Topps is the only company licensed to use MiLB team names and logos.

An image posted on the Topps website also gives an early look at the 2025 design. As in past years, 2025 Pro Debut will pick up the flagship Topps design, modified with minor league teams and logos.

Though the full checklist—which will feature a 200-card base set, according to Topps—has not yet been released, images show cards of top prospects Konnor Griffin, JJ Wetherholt, Charlie Condon and more.

It looks like Topps will also use their 2025 Heritage throwback design for a set of classic minor league players, including Buster Posey.

New inserts for 2025 will include “Drafted, League Elites, Stars of MiLB and Ballpark Promos,” according to Topps.

As in past years, jumbo boxes will include four autographs, per Topps. The site does not yet have information about other formats, but in past years, there has also been a hobby box format that included three autographs.

The 2025 Topps Pro Debut checklist, prices, release date have not yet been released. Check back with Baseball America for more information as it becomes available.

The Debut Patch hunt, introduced in 2023, has become arguably the biggest hunt of the year in the collectible world, as evidenced by the Paul Skenes 1/1 debut patch chase that consumed the hobby last fall/winter and wound up selling for $1.1 million at auction this past March.

Logo Man chases have been around a lot longer and have grown in popularity in recent years. This year, Topps and parent company Fanatics introduced the “Gold Logo Man” chase, featuring gold Logo Man patches worn by players who had won MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards the year prior. These were first inserted in the just-released 2025 Topps Chrome set, with the new round of Debut Patches expected to be included in this fall’s 2025 Topps Chrome Update.

In late August, a 1/1 card featuring NBA Logo man patches from Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan (plus autographs of both) sold at auction for nearly $13 million.
