Track Record: The Rockies signed Herrera out of the Dominican Republic in 2021, and he spent two years in the Dominican Summer League and one in the Arizona Complex League, working almost exclusively as a reliever in all three seasons. He advanced to full-season ball in 2024, making a pair of Class A stops. Herrera began to pick up steam in 2025, when he dominated the High-A Northwest League, represented the Rockies at the Futures Game and earned a mid-May promotion to Double-A Hartford. He ranked fourth in the minors with 17 saves and pitched in the Arizona Fall League after the season.
Scouting Report: Herrera’s combination of low three-quarters arm slot and above-average carry makes his 95-99 mph fastball one of the better heaters in the minors. The lefthander’s fastball is almost impossible to lift. Hitters managed just .197/.287/.236 against Herrera’s fastball in 2025, and the two home runs he allowed both came against his slider. Though undersized at 6 feet and 166 pounds, he compensates with a polished three-pitch arsenal and a delivery that adds a layer of deception. He pairs his fastball with a hard, low-to-mid-80s gyro slider that serves as his most-used secondary pitch, generating consistent whiffs and chase swings. Herrera worked on adding a fringy mid-80s changeup to better handle righthanded hitters, but in a one-inning relief role, a third pitch won’t be necessary.
The Future: Herrera is ready for Triple-A Albuquerque, a hitter’s paradise, just like Coors Field. His groundball tendencies are tailor-made for limiting damage. He is expected to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason and could pitch his way to Colorado at some point in 2026. He has the stuff to be a high-leverage reliever.

BA Grade/Risk: 45/High.
Track Record: Herrera signed out of the Dominican Republic in January of 2021 and debuted in the Dominican Summer League later that season. He spent two years in the DSL before coming stateside in 2023. He made 21 appearances for the Rockies’ Arizona Complex League affiliate then jumped to a full-season level in 2024. Over 46 relief appearances split evenly between Low-A and High-A, Herrera struck out 92 batters and walked 23 across 62.1 innings. Herrera was selected as a Low-A California League all-star after the season.
Scouting Report: Herrera is an undersized lefthander with a four-pitch mix who’s adept at missing bats and driving grounders. Herrera mixes a four-seam fastball and sinker that sit 93-95 mph and touch 97 mph at peak. He generates lots of ground balls with both fastball shapes and his slider, a low-to-mid-80s gyroball. His changeup wasn’t used much in 2024 but is a standard changeup in the mid-80s. Herrera generates whiffs with both his fastball and slider with the latter doing a great job of generating chases. Herrera shows above-average command of his fastball and slider and shows average strike-throwing abilities.
The Future: Herrera will likely begin 2024 with a chance to break through to the major leagues this summer.
