Flukey is one of the more intriguing arms in this year’s class and is a key cog within Coastal Carolina’s rotation. Following a productive freshman campaign, Flukey this spring became a household name after pitching to a 3.19 ERA with 118 strikeouts to just 24 walks in 101.2 innings. Flukey has an ultra-long arm stroke and relies primarily on his mid-to-upper-90s fastball that has been up to 98 mph with plus carry through the zone, though his mid-70s curveball was a revelation this spring. It flashed above-average with some depth and bite, and it generated a 49% miss rate. Flukey completes his arsenal with an effective mid-to-upper-80s slider that flashes two-plane tilt and a mid-to-upper-80s changeup that’s an intriguing fourth pitch. Armed with a deep arsenal and appealing combination of strikes and stuff, Flukey has the traits to propel himself into the SP1 conversation. -

Flukey is a tall and lean righthander with a 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame who helped pitch Coastal Carolina to a College World Series appearance in 2025. After a solid freshman season in 2024, Flukey took a step forward as a sophomore when he posted a 3.28 ERA over 17 starts and 101.2 innings with a 28.3% strikeout rate and 5.8% walk rate. Flukey has a gangly look on the mound with a high leg kick and a deep, extended arm action before throwing from a three-quarters slot. He averaged 95 mph with his fastball and touched 98 while showing above-average riding life. Flukey did an excellent job attacking the zone with his fastball, which helped him cut his walk rate significantly. He throws two breaking balls: a mid-70s curveball with 12-to-6 shape and a mid-80s gyro slider that gets increased usage against righties. Flukey also mixes in an occasional mid-80s changeup vs. lefties. With improved command, a projectable frame and a deep four-pitch mix, Flukey profiles as a first-round talent with a chance to be one of the first arms off the board. -

Flukey showed promise last summer with his lanky, projectable 6-foot-6 frame and a fastball that he ran up to 93 mph. At the beginning of the season in April, Flukey dialed his fastball up to 97 mph, sparking more interest throughout the area and drawing more national-level scouts in for his starts. What he has shown since then has been more up-and down-performance with fluctuating velocity and strike-throwing. Since hitting 97 early, Flukey has mostly operated at 90-93 mph and touched 95, with some starts where his velocity has dipped into the upper 80s by the third or fourth inning. His fastball has late life and traits that help it play up to get empty swings. Flukey’s slider has its moments but is usually a fringe-average pitch at best, with a splitter that’s below-average. His longer arm stroke causes him to work around his breaking ball and, like a lot of gangly teenagers, he is still learning to sync up his mechanics to throw consistent strikes, something he did well early in the spring but wasn’t as sharp in later outings. Some scouts think Flukey’s future could be in a bullpen, but he offers a big frame, a lively fastball and should be able to hold his velocity better—and perhaps add more—as he packs on more weight.
