Sides has the long, projectable build that’s easy for scouts to dream on. Over the past year, that projection has started to come to fruition with Sides taking a leap forward with his stuff across the board. A lanky 6-foot-5 righthander with loose, whippy arm speed, Sides went from touching 92 mph in 2024 to now reaching 95 mph from his low three-quarters slot and has the look of a pitcher who could eventually get into the upper-90s once he packs on more size. Sides throws a hard slider in the mid-80s he can spin in the 2,500-2,800 rpm range with late, tight break, along with a 77-80 mph curveball he shows feel to spin as well, with the slider likely to be the bigger swing-and-miss pitch. Sides’ changeup comes in firm off his fastball at 85-87 mph but the fading action on the pitch helps him induce whiffs against both lefties and righties. With some similarities to Florida righthander Liam Peterson, Sides checks a lot of boxes scouts look for as a high upside starter with a deep pitch mix. -
School: Orange Lutheran (Calif.) HS Committed/Drafted: LSU. Age At Draft: 18.6
Sides has the sort of long, projectable build that’s easy for scouts to dream on. He has a lanky, 6-foot-5, 210-pound frame, and over the past few years that projection has started to come to fruition, and his stuff has taken a step forward. With a loose, whippy arm, Sides has gone from touching 92 mph in 2024 to reaching back for 95 during the summer of 2025. He throws from a low three-quarters slot and will also mix in a low-80s slider that has late, tight break in the 2,500-2,800 rpm range. Sides also throws a mid-80s changeup and an occasional curveball in the upper 70s, though his slider is the better swing-and-miss pitch at the moment. He checks a lot of boxes for scouts as a high-upside starter with more projection to dream on and a deep mix. For some, he’s the best prep arm in Southern California. Sides is committed to LSU.
