Draft Prospects

School:Wake Forest Age At Draft: 20.9
Drafted: Never Drafted
Following an impressive fall, Wentz earned a spot in the Demon Deacons’ starting lineup and hit .316/.393/.566 with 14 doubles, 13 home runs and 50 RBIs. A switch-hitter, Wentz has plenty of bat speed and his swing from the left side is the more polished of the two. There are some hit tool questions, particularly as it pertains to performance against secondaries, and Wentz’s contact skills are below-average. A shortstop in high school, Wentz has an above-average arm from the left side of the infield and likely profiles best at third base in the long run. -
School: Wake Forest Committed/Drafted: Never Drafted. Age At Draft: 20.9
Wentz is a toolsy switch-hitter with impressive bat speed from both sides of the plate. He hit .316/.393/.566 with 13 home runs and 14 doubles as a freshman in 2025, though that production also came with a 26.9% strikeout rate. Wentz can put a charge into the ball from either side of the plate, though he is more polished from the left side. He’ll need to sharpen his contact skills and improve his pitch recognition vs. secondaries. A high school shortstop, Wentz played third base with Wake Forest and is more likely to stick there or a corner outfield spot at the next level. His above-average arm could be assets at third base and right field. -
School: Amherst County HS, Madison Heights, Va. Commit/Drafted: South Carolina
Age At Draft: 19
A 6-foot-2, 215-pound switch-hitting shortstop and righthanded pitcher, Wentz has impressive bat speed and a dynamic swing that’s probably more advanced from the left side. He put on a show at the Area Code Games batting practice, where he did a nice job driving the ball to all fields and showcasing his strength and raw power. He struggled more in games at the event, with eight strikeouts and one walk in 12 plate appearances, but he did have a number of tough matchups. He finally put things together in one of his last at-bats of the event, when he jumped on a 91 mph first-pitch fastball from righthander Adam Haight and pulled it down the line over the right field fence for a 344-foot homer. Wentz takes big hacks and consistently looks to do damage at the plate which leads to lots of whiffs. Through 18 logged games in 2023, Wentz posted a 34% miss rate overall. He has a strong arm and throws fastballs in the 90-92 mph range and could potentially be a legitimate two-way player in college, though scouts seem to be more excited about his upside as a hitter, even if he has to move off shortstop in the future. Wentz is older for the class and turns 19 shortly after the draft, which would make him a draft-eligible sophomore if he makes it to campus at South Carolina.
