Belyeu had a breakout season for Texas as a sophomore in 2024 when he hit .329 with 18 home runs and was named the Big 12 Conference player of the year. Following that season he played with USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team over the summer, and then got off to a strong start in his 2025 junior season before a thumb injury in late March cost him about a month. In three seasons with the Longhorns, Belyeu hit .318/.414/.616 with 27 home runs, a 25% strikeout rate and an 11.5% walk rate. He’s close to a finished product physically, with a strong and filled-out, 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame. Belyeu is an aggressive hitter who likes to swing the bat and will expand the strike zone, though he has steadily refined his plate discipline year over year in college. He has the bat-to-ball skills for a more aggressive approach to work, with the bat speed and swing to find the barrel in all areas of the zone—and occasionally beyond it. Belyeu has solid raw power and might be able to get to 20-25 home runs, though doing so might require a bit more selectivity in his swing decisions. Belyeu isn’t a burner, but he’s a high-effort runner who gets out of the box quickly and will turn in average run times. He’s stretched in center field and has been a primary right fielder in college, where his plus arm fits nicely, but his routes and instincts will need to improve to become a better than average defender.

He followed up that campaign with a summer stint on USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team and got off to a strong start in 2025 before a thumb injury sidelined him for about a month. Over three seasons with the Longhorns, Belyeu hit .318/.414/.616 with 27 home runs, a 25% strikeout rate and an 11.5% walk rate. The Rockies drafted him with the final pick of competitive balance round B following the second round in 2025 and inked him for $1.1 million. His pro debut was a struggle. Belyeu struck out 35.5% of the time while hitting .150 in 21 games for High-A Spokane, though he did homer four times.

Scouting Report: Belyeu is a strong, physically developed 6-foot-2, 215-pound lefthanded hitter with a compact swing and quick hands. He takes an aggressive approach at the plate and is prone to chasing pitches. Belyeu’s plate discipline showed steady improvement throughout his college career, but it regressed dramatically in his brief pro debut. He possesses solid-average raw power and projects to hit 20–25 home runs with further refinement. On the bases, Belyeu isn’t a burner, but he’s a hustling runner who moves well once underway and grades out as average in terms of speed. He is an average defender in right field, where his plus arm could be an asset.

The Future: Like many Rockies hitting prospects, Belyeu needs to hit to profile as a big leaguer, because he is a corner outfielder without a lot of defensive potential. His struggles in Spokane gave him a solid understanding of how he needs to work to recognize pitches better and focus on making more consistent contact. He should head back to the Northwest League to begin 2026.

Belyeu logged just 20 at-bats for Texas as a freshman in 2023, but he broke out in a big way in 2024. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Belyeu won Big 12 Player of the Year after hitting .329/.423/.667 with 15 doubles, 18 home runs and 53 RBIs in 59 games. He has above-average power to the pull side and also has solid bat-to-ball skills that could lead to an average hit tool as well. Belyeu’s routes in the outfield can get scenic at times, but with reps he has a chance to be an above-average defender in an outfield corner. His arm is his loudest tool and is a plus weapon with great carry and accuracy that should leave baserunners questioning themselves when taking an extra bag.

Belyeu is a free-swinging lefthanded hitter who impressed Texas scouts last fall with his feel for hitting. He’s stood out against more advanced competition and this spring there was a decent amount of scouting hype on him at his Aledo, Texas high school. A 6-foot-2, 195-pound outfielder, Belyeu has mostly fringe-average tools across the board and a profile that will be driven by his pure hitting ability and future power potential. Belyeu has a simple and smooth lefthanded stroke with slight lift and solid pop presently, with a frame that should be able to add more strength and potentially get to average power production in the future. He has a quiet lower half at the plate and starts his swing with a small leg kick, and shows good rhythm in the box. Belyeu looks like a future fringe-average runner who would likely fit best in a corner, with solid arm strength, at the next level. Because of that, some teams could prefer to see him prove it in college like other bat-first prep corner profiles, though there’s enough attention to think a team could try and buy him out of a Texas commitment this July.
