Track Record: Gonzalez was one of the most talented players available in the 2025 international class, and the Giants inked him for $2,997,500 on Jan. 15. Immediately, he set to work proving that the investment was wise. His combination of offensive and defensive skills made him an easy choice for the top prospect in the Dominican Summer League, and he continued wowing evaluators after he moved stateside for instructional league.
Scouting Report: Gonzalez’s tool set is led by sublime defense, which grades as an easy 70 on the 20-80 scouting scale. He can make any play required by a big league shortstop thanks to standout range, strong instincts, fluid actions and an arm that easily grades as plus. Gonzalez’s offensive numbers don’t jump off the page in the way that other DSL wunderkinds’ have in years past, but a look under the hood shows a player with an elite sense of the strike zone and more thump than would be expected from a player his size. The switch-hitting Gonzalez shows more power from the left side and a handsier, more contact-oriented swing from the right. His tools give him a tantalizing base and helped him post one of the best seasons from a 17-year-old in the DSL. He’s far from a finished product, however. In the coming years, he’ll have to prove that his approach holds up against more advanced arms, and he’ll need to add strength to his frame in order to withstand the rigors of a full minor league season.
The Future: After a strong first pro season, Gonzalez is likely to see time in full-season ball in 2026. Whether he jumps there during or after the Arizona Complex League season remains to be seen, but he should reach Low-A at some point. He has a future as a lockdown shortstop who hits toward the top of the lineup and creates havoc on the bases.

BA Grade/Risk: 55/Extreme.
Track Record: Gonzalez was one of the best players in the international class not named Roki Sasaki and immediately slides into the upper tier of San Francisco’s system.
Scouting Report: As would be expected of someone of his pedigree, Gonzalez’s card is full of loud tools. He’s a double-plus runner with above-average arm strength, and both skills should give him plenty of chances to stick at shortstop. So, too, will his hands, range and athleticism. At the plate, the switch-hitting Gonzalez whips the barrel through the zone with both of his swings and can lose baseballs from either side of the dish. He’s got to polish his hit tool somewhat, but that’s to be expected from someone so young.
The Future: Gonzalez will begin his career in the Dominican Summer League. If he achieves his ceiling, he can be a table-setter who provides plenty of speed, sticks at shortstop and mixes in plenty of power as well.
Scouting Grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 55 | Run: 70 | Field: 55 | Arm: 55.
