Eagen is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound righthander who has seen a significant uptick in stuff from the 2023 season to 2024. Eagen pitched as a split starter/reliever in his first two seasons with Presbyterian but in 2024 he moved to a full-time starting role where he posted a 2.90 ERA over 77.2 innings and 14 starts. His fastball jumped from sitting in the 89-90 mph range to 93-94 and touching 96. The strikeouts followed. After previously striking out batters at a 19-22% clip in his first two seasons, Eagen posted a 37.8% strikeout rate during his junior year and led the Big South with 121 strikeouts and overall strikeout rate. Eagen pitched off the fastball about 60% of the time this spring but also has a pair of breaking balls including a low-80s top-down curveball and a mid-80s slider with more three-quarters action. Both were impressive swing-and-miss offerings for him and generated miss rates north of 50% but are probably solid-average or above-average secondaries in pro ball. He favors the curveball at the moment and will also mix in an occasional mid-80s changeup. Eagen is an average strike-thrower who still has plenty of room to fill out and add strength to his frame.

BA Grade/Risk: 50/Average
Adjusted Grade: 40
Track Record: Eagen has dealt with adversity since childhood. He needed surgery at age 4 to remove a cancerous brain tumor. He is now cancer-free. After a dominant 2024 season in which Eagen earned Big South Conference pitcher of the year honors, the Diamondbacks made him the highest-drafted player in Presbyterian history as a third-round pick. Eagen wasted no time delivering on his potential. He carved up the Northwest League for High-A Hillsboro in 2025, logging four double-digit strikeout outings, before a late-season promotion to Double-A, where he struggled in hitter-friendly Amarillo.
Scouting Report: Eagen checks all the boxes for a future starting pitcher. He has a strong, 6-foot-4 frame, a simple, repeatable delivery and a repertoire that looks like it should translate to the major leagues. His fastball sits at 93 mph and topped at 96 with nearly 20 inches of carry. His two breaking balls are both at least above-average. His big, 82 mph downer curveball had a 42% whiff rate, while his gyro slider—which at 86 mph sat between the heater and curve—got whiffs at a 54% clip. His split changeup remains a work in progress and was expected to be a focus for him in the offseason. Eagen is a good competitor and worker who takes his game-planning and prep work seriously.
The Future: Eagen should reach the majors as a starter, but whether he remains in that role could depend on any number of factors, including whether his stuff improves, his repertoire becomes deeper and how he commands his arsenal. He could have the ceiling of a No. 4 starter, though his stuff would profile in a late-inning role. Either way he is looking like a nice scouting and player development success story for the organization.

BA Grade/Risk: 45/High.
Track Record: Eagen has dealt with adversity since childhood, needing surgery at 4 years old to remove a cancerous brain tumor. He is now cancer-free. Lightly recruited out of high school in North Carolina, he landed at Presbyterian, where he struggled as a freshman before missing most of his sophomore year with elbow problems. He put it all together during a fully healthy junior year, posting a 37.8% strikeout rate while earning Big South pitcher of the year honors. The D-backs made him the highest-drafted player in Presbyterian history, drafting him in the third round in 2024 and signing him for $650,000.
Scouting Report: Eagen’s fastball jumped from 89-90 mph to sitting around 93 mph and touching 96 in his junior spring and it plays up thanks to good carry through the zone. It comes from a high arm slot and pairs well with his downer low-80s curveball, which was practically unhittable during his junior season. He also throws a mid-80s slider with more horizontal movement, giving him two above-average breaking balls. Eagen did not pitch in games after signing but worked at the D-backs’ facility to add a split-change. Team officials believe it’s already an above-average offering. He has a tapered, 6-foot-4 frame and a good delivery. He attacks the strike zone and pitches with a competitive mindset.
The Future: Eagen’s physical attributes, pitch mix and strike-throwing suggest a future starting pitcher. His velocity and feel for spin provide a fallback as a late-inning relief weapon.
