While the majority of prospects in Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects and Top 30s are from the United States, a number of other countries are also well represented. To help spotlight this diversity in nationality, we’re ranking the best current prospects in a wide variety of countries. We are using a player’s birth country, although in some cases, that may differ from where a player grew up.

Best MLB Player Ever: Edgar Renteria

Renteria is the best Colombian-born position player in MLB history, while Jose Quintana is the best pitcher. Shortstop Orlando Cabrera, righthander Julio Teheran and infielder Gio Urshela are other standouts. Colombian position players are heavily represented among middle infielders and pitchers.

Best MLB Player Now: Jose Quintana

Quintana is also the best active player from Colombia. He’s 11-5, 3.72 this year in 22 starts with the Brewers. Urshela, Donovan Solano, Jorge Alfaro, Nabil Crismatt, Gustavo Campero, Reiver Sanmartin and Didier Fuentes have played in the majors this season.

Top Prospect: Michael Arroyo

Arroyo, No. 59 in the Top 100, is a sweet-swinging second baseman who has reached Double-A this year. He’s hit .262/.401/.433 between Everett and Arkansas. Arroyo projects as a bat-first infielder, with enough power and on-base ability to be a productive, long-term second baseman. His glove is likely to always be a bit stretched there, but he may hit enough to eventually slide further down the defensive spectrum.

While he was pushed too quickly to the majors, Didier Fuentes is a solid pitching prospect. Sean Liñan, a recent trade acquisition for the Nationals, also projects as a future big leaguer.

No team scouts Colombia as heavily as the Braves, who saw Fuentes reach the majors this season. In addition to the three prospects listed here, Hayder Ortiz and Rayven Antonio are in the Braves organization.
